Translation happens on your device
Every other extension in this category sends comment text to a translation server — their own listings say so. This one uses the translator built into Chrome, so other people's conversations stay in your browser.
Works offline after the first time
Chrome downloads a language pack once per language pair, with visible progress. After that translation runs with no network at all.
38 languages, and the button speaks yours
Pick any of the 38 pairs Chrome supports. The button under each comment is labelled in the language you translate into — not in your browser's interface language, which is often English even for readers who want Japanese.
Automatic mode for long threads
Turn it on and new comments are translated as you scroll. Off by default: the first pair downloads a model, and doing that without asking would be rude.
Honest about what it needs
On-device translation requires Chrome 138 or newer on a computer. Where it is unavailable the panel says so in one line instead of showing three hundred buttons that do nothing.

Why did YouTube's translate button disappear?
YouTube has been removing the built-in comment translation for a growing number of accounts and regions — the searches 'youtube comment translate missing', 'translation gone' and 'not showing' all spiked for that reason. Nobody outside YouTube can say when or whether it returns; this extension restores the function independently of it.
Does my comment text get sent anywhere?
No. Translation runs inside Chrome using the translator built into the browser. There is no account, no analytics, and no server of ours in the path. The only thing that ever reaches us is a feedback message you type into the panel and send yourself.
What do I need for it to work?
Chrome 138 or newer on a desktop computer. Because nothing is sent to a server there is no online fallback: on older versions or on mobile the extension tells you plainly instead of pretending to work.
How many languages are supported?
38 — the set Chrome's built-in translator ships with, including Japanese, Korean, Chinese (both scripts), Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Arabic and most European languages. Competitors advertise 100+ because a server does their translation; we trade breadth for privacy and speed, and say so.
Can it translate the video, subtitles or the description?
No, comments only. For the spoken content use our transcript extractor, or the summarizer if you want the takeaways in your own language.
Will it translate comments that are already in my language?
No. Each comment's language is detected first, and comments already in your target language are left alone rather than 'translated' into themselves.
Is it free?
Completely. There is no paid tier and no quota, because there is no server cost to cover — your own browser does the work.
